Economist on "Humanities teaching loads are a joke"

I'm a LAC prof, sitting in on a humanities course for fun.

The class meets 2 hours a week. The professor basically shows up and talks about the reading. There's a final paper due at the end of the term. That's it.

No problem sets to create or grade. No exams to create or grade. No rush of students e-mailing with questions about the problem sets and exams. The professor has two office hours a week, and then he presumably grades the final paper.

Compare with my courses:
- Elaborate lecture notes and powerpoint slides with animations for every lecture
- Problem sets (creative, fun, and yet educational and doable) to be designed every week
- Supervising grading of said problem sets by TAs
- Quizzes to be designed and graded every other week
- Two midterms and a final to be designed and graded
- 6 office hours
- 10 student e-mails a day
