I thought it was the ideology of Friedman, Hayek, Buchanan, and many likeminded academics and thinkers. Then about a decade ago I saw that the likes of Krugman and Delong considered themselves Neoliberals. Now I see people referring to the rejection of Hillary Clinton, the DNC, and the EU as a rejection of Neoliberalism, even though these institutions have largely dedicated their existence to opposing the proposals of economists like Friedman and Buchanan.
I don't understand this at all anymore, as an academic economist who had considered himself a neoliberal for over a decade, what exactly is it? Did I miss something?
