About 8 months ago I showed that 20% of users of EJMR were female and promised to target 30% within a year.
Today I am very happy to announce that over the last 30 days we surpassed 30% female visitors, a 50% increase in female participation, 4 months ahead of target! This is a result of stronger enforcement of the moderation policy of EJMR and making it more inclusive for all. The headline traffic numbers also show this, as total traffic is up 15% year on year.
It is important to re-state that 30% is far higher than the percentage of women who are assistant professors, associate professors with tenure, and full professors in Economics departments.
It is logical to now ask what meaningful improvements have happened at the AEA and Economics Departments? Those that pointed the finger at EJMR are now sitting in some embarrassing glass houses. We can only go higher than 30% at EJMR if you change your side, after all EJMR is just a mirror of Economics departments.
