I say economics. A math phd student is most likely only studied math undergrad. Some compsci, some physics. But econ students have to have a dual in math/econ or compsci/econ. Not only are you required to know math as an econ student but the application takes it to another level of thinking that I think a pure math student doesn't have.
I think a physics major has more skill than a pure math major. though much of physics is a subset of math, it highlights the fact application is another game of higher thinking.
